When Matara district UNP MP Mangala Samaraweera recently raised in parliament the issue of the Matara clash and revealed those behind the incident, it was Colombo district UNP MP Sujeewa Senasinghe who rose up promptly and spoke in defence of the Sirasa Media Network and its chief Killy Maharaja.
Later, on the orders of opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, UNP parliamentary group leader John Amaratunga took it up with MP Sujeewa Senasinghe, whose honest response was, “Sir, I did not attack Mangala. Nor did I attack the party. What I did was to speak on behalf of Killy Maharaja. I get paid by him. Therefore, I have a responsibility to protect him. Ranil does not pay me. There are many others in parliament who get paid by him, but all of them remained silent. That is why rose up and spoke. Even if there is a disciplinary inquiry that is all what I have to say.”
Mr. John Amaratunga, thereafter, informed the opposition leader, who agreed, saying, “That is true, John. I do not pay him. Workers should be honest to the boss.”
